Pender Radio was founded by a group of islanders who believed that local voices deserved a local platform. What started as a modest experiment in community broadcasting has grown into the station you're listening to today.
We're volunteer-powered, community-funded, and proudly rooted on S,DÁYES — Pender Island. Every show you hear is made by someone who lives and breathes this island life.

Organized, rhythmic and in control of the flow. He’s the one who keeps the show running smoothly, instruments in tune and bandmate in sympatico. Knows how to solve any problem he’s seen before, and he’s seen them all before.

Working as the technical director of Pender Radio, Laurie has been on the scene from day one; Designing the studio, training DJs, and handling the playlists between live shows.

Sees the trail, charts the course and keeps the caravan in motion. With feet grounded and eyes forward, she’s the one who knows what comes next, and what path will get us there.

Manages the programming grid through the power of spreadsheets and passive-aggressive emails. Supports the storytelling of the station and the fabric that ties it all together. Keeps the content coherent, compelling, and unmistakably Pender.

Originally from Toronto, Emma Cale has called Pender Island home for the past nine years. She works in tech, runs a local business, and enjoys travelling, writing, and staying involved in the community through volunteer work with several Pender organizations.

Tammy wears many Pender hats — she’s half the force behind Kraken Underground and Hot Dog Solutions, the sole human behind the creations of Pancake Coalition, and spends her day job doing deeply nerdy tech and business process work. Somewhere between community events, design projects, and occasional hyper-fixations, she somehow decided to find time to haunt the airwaves with the Department of Disembodied Voices.
